Army Hosts Akron, Providence and WVU for Invite

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Black Knights are back in Gillis Field House Friday and Saturday to host the second invitational of the 2017-18 season. Akron, Providence and West Virginia will come to West Point for the event.

- Army went 2-2 last week with wins over crosstown rival Marist (3-0) and BIG EAST opponent DePaul (3-1).
- Co-captain Amber Clay had double-double performances in all four matches and averaged a team-leading 3.73 kills per set and 3.53 digs per set.
- Carolyn Bockrath posted 44 kills last week, while classmate Vanessa Wesley had 28 and a .300 hitting percentage.
- Nikki Lum averaged 6.33 assists per set and produced 25 digs.

- This will be the second time Army faces the Zips in program history and the first since 2002 .
- Akron stands at 3-6 this season with wins over Maryland Eastern Shore, Tennessee Tech and Youngstown State.
- Kayla Gwozdz of Akron is nationally ranked among three categories. Gwozdz is ranked 28th in attacks per set (11.77), 39th in kills per set (4.17), and 55th in points per set (4.53).

PROVIDENCE (11-0, 0-0 BIG EAST)
- The Black Knights and Friars compete for the eighth time in program history this weekend. Providence holds a 6-1 advantage in the series.
- Providence currently boasts an unblemished 11-0 record for 2017. The Friars are coming off a 4-0 performance at their home tournament and a 3-0 win over Brown Tuesday night.
- Addison Root leads Providence with 3.46 kills per set and Jenae Alderson follows with 3.09. Allison Barber is 30th in the country for assists per set with 11.24.

- Army and West Virginia first met in 1991 with this matchup being the two team's third contest.
- The Mountaineers are in the midst of a six-match winning streak after defeating Marshall 3-0 Tuesday night. Their two losses come from No. 2 Minnesota and No. 6 Penn State.
- West Virginia's Payton Caffrey is 12th nationally in aces per set (0.61) and leads the team with 4.30 points per set. Mia Swanegan (3.67), Katelyn Evans (2.97), Natania Levak (2.20) and Katie DeMeo (2.08) all produce over 2.00 points per set.
