Army Tabbed Seventh in Preseason Poll
August 16, 2017 | Women's Soccer
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its women's soccer preseason poll on Wednesday and the Army West Point Black Knights are selected to finish seventh.
The preseason poll and individual awards were voted on by the women's soccer coaches and sports information directors from each institution, with restrictions of voting for their own team and student-athletes.
Boston University, the reigning league runner-up, earned the most points with 156 in addition to 12 first-place votes. Bucknell was slated second with 152 points and the remaining eight first-place votes, while Navy checked in at third with 121 points.
Colgate edged out Lehigh for the fourth spot, receiving 119 points to the Mountain Hawks' 102. Three points separate Army from sixth-place Loyola, who earned 69. Lafayette, Holy Cross and American followed with 53, 43 and 19 points, respectively.
Senior captain Clare Shea was the lone Cadet to be selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. The midfielder is coming off a season in which she led Army with 13 points, four goals and five assists. All of which were career highs and earned her All-Patriot League First Team honors in 2016.
The Black Knights kick off the 2017-18 athletic season for Army Friday night at Clinton Field by hosting Iona at 7 p.m.
