Rowley To Make Buffalo Bisons Starting Debut
July 03, 2017 | Baseball
Buffalo, N.Y. –The Buffalo Bisons announced today that 2013 Army West Point graduate, RHP Chris Rowley, is now the team's scheduled starter for tonight's 23rd Annual KeyBank Independence Eve Celebration game against the Syracuse Chiefs (6:05 p.m. | Gates: 4:00 p.m.).
Â
Rowley, a native of Duluth, GA, served in the US Army as a First Lieutenant from 2014-2015 in the Bravo Company of the 2-7 Infantry, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division. His service included a tour in Bulgaria as part of NATO's Operation Atlantic Resolve. After playing briefly with the Blue Jays' Gulf Coast League team after graduation in 2013, the righty did not pitch professionally until returning stateside before the 2016 season.
Â
While at West Point, Rowley was one of the most successful pitchers in the history of the Black Knights. He ranks third on Army's all-time wins list (25), while also setting the single-season victory mark with 11 during the 2012 campaign. He also ranks second in the Academy's history with 277.0 innings pitched and fifth with a .735 winning percentage. Overall, Rowley was 25-9 with a 3.44 ERA and 216 strikeouts with Army. He was named to the All-Patriot League First Team in 2012 and 2013, and was tabbed the league's Most Valuable Player during the 2013 postseason tournament.
Â
Rowley will be making his fourth appearance and first start with the Bisons. The righty is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in three relief appearances, two of which lasted over four innings (11.2 IP, 11 K). Rowley began the 2017 season in the bullpen with Double-A New Hampshire, but was 3-1 with a 0.92 ERA in four starts in early June, prompting his first career promotion to Triple-A.
Â
Rowley and all his Bisons teammates will also be wearing special 'Stars & Stripes' caps during tonight's KeyBank Independence Eve Celebration. Proceeds of the sale of every Stars & Stripes cap at the ballpark and online at Bisons.com will benefit Welcome Back Veterans, which helps returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder and their families.
Â
TICKETS for the Bisons 23rd Annual KeyBank Independence Eve Celebration with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus are available by visiting Bisons.com or at the Coca-Cola Field Box Office. All ballpark gates for tonight's event open at 4:00 p.m.
