WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey program has announced its 2017-18 schedule which will feature 15 home games and a trip to Mariucci Arena for a matchup with the Gophers to ring in the New Year.
Â
"We are excited for our upcoming 2017-18 schedule," said head coach Brian Riley. "It will provide many challenges in and out of conference. It may be one of the most challenging away schedules with many tough league games on the road. We will also be facing both our rivals Air Force and RMC at their places this season, and the remainder of our non-league games will be challenging as we will face one of the top teams year in and out Minnesota for a two-game slate in December as well as taking on two Hockey East opponents in University of New Hampshire and Merrimack."
Â
The Black Knights open the season with two league road series at AIC (Oct. 6-7) and Robert Morris (Oct. 20-21) before making their Tate Rink debut on Oct. 27-28, against RIT.
Â
The heart of the fall schedule picks up with an additional two road series. Army will take on Air Force in Colorado Springs Nov. 4-5, in correlation to many other Black Knights-Falcons events occurring. Both hockey games will begin at 9:05 p.m. (ET). The following weekend, the Black Knights will head to Niagara on Nov. 10-11.
Â
Army returns home Nov. 17-18 to take on Holy Cross on the banks of the Hudson and will then travel to Sacred Heart Nov. 21 for a single game.
Â
A three-game homestand will begin the weekend after Thanksgiving with a matchup against Canisius Nov. 24-25. The Black Knights then host Colgate for a single game on Dec. 2, which features a 4:05 p.m. puck drop.
Â
Army will travel north Dec. 8-9 with games at Merrimack and UNH to close-out the first half of the season. The Black Knights continue the road trips after Winter Break with their trip to Minneapolis for games on Dec. 29-30, both slated for 8 p.m. (ET) and then for a game at Sacred Heart on Jan. 7.
Â
The Black Knights' first home games of 2018 will be opposite Bentley Jan. 12-13 before Army heads to Kingston, Ontario, to face RMC on Jan. 20.
Â
Army then begins a four-game home stand when Mercyhurst and Niagara come to town on back-to-back weekends (Jan. 27-28 and Feb. 2-3).
Â
Canisius and Bentley are the final two regular season away series on the docket for the Black Knights before Army welcomes the Pioneers to Tate for senior weekend Feb. 23-24.
Â
The Atlantic Hockey Tournament will take place over three weeks in March. The best-of-three first round starts on March 2, while the quarterfinals faceoff the following weekend. The semifinals and championship will be held at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y., and those are on March 16 and 17, respectively.
