WEST POINT, N.Y. – Head swimming and diving coach Mickey Wender has announced the addition of assistant coach Greg Brown to his coaching staff.
Brown spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Florida Atlantic University. He helped recruit some of the team's top talent including bringing on 23 newcomers for the 2016-17 season. He was also an integral part of leading the men's team to a fourth-place finish at the 2017 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships.
"We are thrilled to welcome Greg Brown and his young family into the Army West Point swimming and diving family," Wender said. "His coaching experience is extensive and his skill sets are just what we were looking for. Greg has a dynamic personality and is a true professional. He has hit the ground running and is excited to take over as our recruiting coordinator and sprint coach. Most importantly, his values are aligned with those of the Academy. He will be a great mentor and role model to our future leaders."
Brown brought 11 years of college coaching experience with him to FAU, with six of those being at the Division I level. While coaching the last two schools, Brown elevated them to new heights and achieved many new records, which led him to be named Coach of the Year more than once.
Brown comes from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania where he served as the Head Men's and Women's Coach from 2010-15. During Brown's five seasons, he helped lead the Pacers into the top half of the Landmark Conference. He coached multiple Conference Champions and record holders while also being named the 2013-14 Landmark Conference Men's Co-Coach of the Year. During his final two seasons nine athletes were named to the All-Conference team and during the 2015 season 17 athletes were named Landmark All Academic.
Prior to coming to Marywood, Brown was the Head Women's Swimming and Diving Coach at Siena College in Albany, New York. During his four seasons as Head Coach, the Saints compiled a 29-21 record, including the program's only 10 win season during 2009-10. At the 2010 Metro Atlantic Conference Championships the team finished third overall and Brown was named MAAC Women's Coach of the Year.
Brown started his coaching career in Burlington, Vermont where he spent four years as the Head Swim Coach at the Greater Burlington YMCA while also working as a volunteer assistant at the University of Vermont.
Brown is a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and attended Lycoming College in Williamsport where he earned his Bachelor's degree in history. Additionally, he was a four year All-Conference swimmer, and was named team captain after winning the Coaches Award and being named Team MVP. Brown also won seven conference medals for the Warriors.
