WEST POINT, N.Y. – Prior to hosting the 2017 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships at West Point Friday and Saturday, the Army West Point gymnastics team is set to break the Guinness World Record for most cartwheels performed simultaneously Thursday, April 20. The event will take place on the plain at 2 p.m., and is open to the West Point community.
Â
If you would like to be a part of the world record, please arrive at 1:30 p.m., at Clinton Lot before checking in at the designated areas on your way to the plain. Collectively, individuals will execute cartwheels three times.
The previous Guinness World Record for people performing cartwheels simultaneously is 690 and was achieved by members of 14 Pittsburgh area gymnastics clubs on June 23, 2014. For further information on this event, please contact Captain Joshua Burnett at joshua.burnett@usma.edu or 845-938-6623.
The NCAA Championships will kick off with the annual awards banquet on Thursday night at Ike Hall. Individual qualifying rounds begin on Friday, April 21, with the first beginning at 1 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. from Christl Arena at the Holleder Center.
Â
The top-three individual finishers in all-around and on each event during each session, who are not already qualified on the team (top three teams qualify) or as an all-around competitor, will advance to Saturday's finals round to begin at 6 p.m.
Â
Tickets are still available to fans for the NCAA sessions and can be purchased here.
