Albany, NYIT Next Up For Army
April 17, 2017 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team welcomes Albany and NYIT on Tuesday and Wednesday for two out-of-conference midweek games.
Â
Both games are slated for 3:30 p.m. at Army's Doubleday Field.
Â
The Black Knights recently fell in 3-of-4 games to Holy Cross over the weekend. The Cadets did manage to break out for a 9-2 seven-inning victory on Sunday though. In that contest, senior Alex Dickerson hit his second-career grand slam to hand Army the early 4-0 edge after the first inning. Sophomore Trey Martin followed that up in the second when he went yard to left center, increasing the Black Knights' lead to 5-0. The Cadets never looked back.
Â
On the weekend, Jon Rosoff finished 5-of-13 with two RBI and two runs. Josh White and Jacob Hurtubise chipped in four hits each, while John McCarthy accounted for three of Army's 23 total hits in the twin bill.
Â
Jacob Carte, Tyler Giovinco and Blake Walters all had solid outings on the hill. Carte got the starting nod in Game 1, allowing four hits, two runs, one of which was earned, in his 6.1 innings of work. He unfortunately was tabbed with the seven-inning loss as the Black Knights fell in a close one 2-0.
Â
Giovinco earned Army's lone win against the Crusaders, giving up just three hits and one run during his 4.2 innings. Walters followed things up in the series finale, coming in to pitch 5.0 innings of relief work. The sophomore did not allow a hit during his time on the mound and his only blemish was a two-out walk in the fourth.
