The Rivalry Continues for #6/8 Black Knights

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The No. 6/8 Army West Point men's lacrosse team takes its nine-game winning streak into the biggest rivalry in all of college lacrosse on Saturday with a visit to Navy for a 12 p.m. faceoff.
The game is going to be live on CBS Sports Network with Dave Ryan and Evan Washburn on the call. Zack Daly can be heard on the radio in the Hudson Valley on 1260 WBNR and 1420 WLNA.

THE OPENING FACEOFF
• Army enters Saturday as one of the hottest teams in the nation with a nine-game winning streak and a berth in the Patriot League semifinals on April 28.
• The Black Knights kept the streak alive thanks to scoring four of the last five goals against Boston University to overcome a two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to win 11-10.
• Army remained the only unbeaten team in the Patriot League with the win.
• The Black Knights will look to win its 10th straight game for the first time in 100 years of Army lacrosse.
• With a win, Army will go 7-0 in league play for the first time in program history.
• The Mids enter Saturday's game with a 5-7 record and a 3-4 mark in conference after a 10-4 loss at Colgate.

• The Black Knights stayed put in both national polls this week. Army is No. 6 in the Maverik Media Poll, while the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches Poll has Army at the eight spot in their national poll.
CONSISTENCY
• Army nailed down another opportunity to play in the Patriot League semifinals after the win over the Terriers.
• The Black Knights will be making their 13th straight appearance in the semifinals, which is the longest streak in the Patriot League with closest being Navy and Bucknell with two consecutive years.
• Army is also the only team to make the semifinals since the league went to six teams in the tournament and the Black Knights have won two quarterfinals matchups as well.
ANOTHER MILESTONE DOWN
• Senior Cole Johnson became the 11th player all-time in academy history to reach 100 goals in a career with a second-quarter tally at Bucknell on April 1.
• Johnson had four points on two goals and two assists against the Bison and moved into 10th all-time in career points with 170.
• The Washington native leads the team in all offensive categories.
• He is four goals outside the career top 10 in goals, assists and points, to become only the fourth player in program history to do so. The others are Steve Heller '93, John Walker '06 and John Glesener '15.
DEFENSE IS KEY
• Army comes into Saturday's game as the second-ranked defense in the nation, allowing only 7.09 goals per game.
• This has also allowed the Black Knights to be second in the country in scoring margin as well at 5.09 goals.
• The defense is anchored by the goalie and AJ Barretto ranks fifth nationally with a 7.37 goals against average.
• Army has allowed six or less goals in six of its 11 games. • Three double-digit outings have come only against teams that are now in the top 10 nationally in Syracuse and Rutgers. Bucknell and Boston University were the other team to score 10 or more against the Black Knights.
SCOUTING THE MIDS
• Navy enters the game with a 5-7 overall record and has won three of its last four, but lost its last outing at Colgate.
• The Mids were ranked to start the year, but went 2-6 out of the gate due to injuries to impact players.
• They are averaging 9.5 goals per game and allowing just under 10, so they have been in some close games in 2017.
• Greyson Torain and Ryan Wade are the team leaders with 32 points. Torain has 19 goals on the year, while Wade has 22 helpers.
• In net, Ryan Kern has a 9.31 goals against average and a .483 save percentage in his first season as primary goalie.
