Men's Tennis Faces Navy on Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team will host service academy rival Navy this Saturday at the Malek Tennis Courts (weather permitting) at 1 p.m. in the Star Match which is a part of the Star Series presented by USAA.
The Black Knights enter the weekend with an overall record of 18-8 and 6-0 in Patriot League play. It will also be senior day where captain's Sam Lampman and Grant Riechmann will be honored.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Midshipmen went 3-0 taking on Loyola (5-2), Bucknell (5-2) and Mount St. Mary's (4-3). Against Loyola, Navy picked up points in the doubles round and at the first, second, fifth and sixth singles positions. Against the Bison, the Mids picked up the doubles points with wins from their first and third pairings. In the singles competition, Navy was able to secure the match with wins from the No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 flights. In the final match of the weekend, Navy captured the doubles points with wins from the No. 1 and 3 flights. In singles, the Mids were able to scrape out a victory with wins from the second position and sixth position. The match came down to the No. 1 flight where Matthew Lee won 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
STAR MATCH HISTORY
Last year, the Black Knights fell to Navy 4-2 in Annapolis. Nguyen is the only returning Cadet to take a point last year with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Krishna Jana of Navy. In 2015 Army secured a 4-0 victory over the Mids with both Lampman (7-3, 6-4) and Riechmann (6-4, 6-3) gaining victories at the No. 1 and 3 flight, respectively. Over the last six years the Black Knights have come away with the star four of the six meetings.
UP NEXT: Army will start its post season run on April 20th. The Patriot League Championships will be held in Annapolis Md., and runs as a four day tournament.

LAST TIME OUT
- Senior captain Sam Lampman and partner Gregory Shannon were the lone Black Knights to win in doubles against Boston University with a 6-3 victory.
- Army swept the Terriers in singles and were led by Michael Nguyen who won in 6-4 straight sets. Lampman continued his success scoring 6-4 in straight sets to defeat the competitor at the No. 2 flight. Grant Riechmann continued the momentum with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position, and David Mitchell sealed the match, after falling in the first set 1-6 he bounced back to win 6-3, 7-5.
- Against Lehigh, the Cadets took all three matches in the doubles round. They were led off by Nguyen and Riechmann (6-4), Lampman and Shannon (6-3) and the first-year duo of Myles Conlin and Nikita Pereverzin (6-1).
- Nguyen led the team in singles at the No. 1 flight with a straight set, 6-1, 6-3, victory. Lampman added another point at the No. 2 position taking down the Mountain Hawk 6-0, 6-3. Conlin fell at the No. 5 position by scores of 6-4, 6-2 before Mitchell was able to seal the match with 6-2 straight set victories.
- Lampman also named the Patriot League Corvias Player of the Week for his efforts. He has helped the team improve to an eight-match win streak while staying undefeated in Patriot League play. Lampman is also on a personal streak having won the last five singles matches that he has been a part of.
