April 11, 2017 | Softball
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Army West Point softball team swept the Patriot League's weekly awards as Lacey Swafford was named the Player and Rookie of the week, while Renee Poirier garnered Pitcher of the week recognition.
This is Swafford's first time being recognized by the league. Poirier was named the pitcher of the week for the second time this season.
Swafford went 10-for-17 (.588 avg.) in five games against Hartford and Lafayette, including two doubles, four runs scored and four runs batted in. The Mayo, Fla., native contributed three multi-hit contests, including Army's second four-hit effort this season. She is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak and is tied for the team lead with 35 hits.
Poirier was dominant in the circle for Army throughout the week, going 3-0 with three complete games. The highlight of the week was a no-hitter in the series finale at Lafayette, in which the Plainville, Mass., native allowed only two base runners. It was Poirier's second no-no of the season to go along with an 8-0, five-inning affair against Columbia on Feb. 24.
Â
Overall, Poirier allowed just four hits and six walks in 21.0 innings of work while striking out 14 batters. The sophomore right-hander lowered her ERA to 1.96, the best in the Patriot League.
Â
The Black Knights resume play on Wednesday at Fairfield with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
