WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Sam Lampman of the Army West Point men's tennis team was named the Patriot League Corvias Male Player of the Week.
The Orlando Fla., native recorded four wins over the weekend against Patriot League opponents, two singles and two doubles. In the first match, Lampman along with doubles partner Gregory Shannon, were the lone pair to get a victory with a 6-3 win over Boston University. The team captain then went on to secure a singles point in the No. 2 flight with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Satyajit Simhadri of the Terriers.
The following day, Lampman and Shannon continued their success at the No. 2 position with a, 6-3, win over Lehigh. In the singles round, Lampman took down Jack Peterson in straight sets of 6-0, 6-3 to help the Black Knights secure another league victory.
With the help of Lampman, Army improves to an eight-match win streak while staying undefeated in Patriot League Play. He is also on a personal streak of five-straight singles wins.
The Black Knights face-off against rival Navy at 1 p.m., as part of the Star Series, presented by USAA, this Saturday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center (indoor) or the Malek Courts (outdoor). The teams will make the decision based on weather conditions on the day of the match.
