WEST POINT, N.Y. – Toughness, humility, effort and execution -- Those were the four words emphasized by head football coach Jeff Monken during Day 3 of Army West Point football's spring practice here Thursday.
The Black Knights finally got to put back on their shoulder pads after some time off for their third consecutive day of practice at Army's Howze Field and Foley Athletic Center.Â
The team worked on special teams responsibilities to kick off the day before breaking up into position specific drills.

The team worked on special teams responsibilities to kick off the day before breaking up into position specific drills.
HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY THREE
- Liam McCarthy and Cooper Simpson both took reps at center during the 8-on-8 drill.
- Also during that competition, quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw teamed up with Christian Poe on a well-executed pass play that stopped the defense in its tracks.
- Thursday's practice concluded with a field goal competition between the offensive linemen. Joshua Boylan was the man of the day after he drilled his attempt right down the middle.
PLAYER INSIGHT WITH JOSHUA BOYLAN
- "It's been great. The guys have really come out strong. The senior leadership has been good all throughout and the young guys are really dedicated to the process. I think it's the strongest start that I've ever had here at the Academy.
- (on referencing Coach Spencer's return) "Every day he comes out there with a fanatical effort and energy and it really gets the guys motivated. Coming back this year, he's the head for the offensive line and I really think he is that sparkplug that we needed. We have the discipline to go through practice but he gets us excited for practice and that's the difference."

- The Black Knights will have Friday off before practicing early Saturday morning at Shea Stadium down by the Hudson River due to the pair of lacrosse games happening that day.Â
