Feature Friday: Head and Shoulders Above the Rest
March 17, 2017 | Men's Gymnastics
Feature Friday highlights the tremendous personal stories our coaches and cadet-athletes have to share on a weekly basis. Each Friday, a new feature story will be prominently highlighted on GoArmyWestPoint.com. The features will include multimedia pieces, as well as written stories by media outlets and the Army West Point athletic communications staff.
Many athletes get burned out due to the high demands of athletics today, or are told their dreams are unattainable because of their body types. Leo Genders of the Army West Point gymnastics team shot up to 6-1 during high school, a giant in the world of gymnastics. This would deter most athletes from continuing, but Genders took it in stride and altered most of his routines in the midst of being recruited to better compliment his size around the apparatuses. Now as a senior captain, Genders ranks amongst the nation's best on high bar and is looking to capture All-America honors when the NCAA's are hosted in West Point this April.
