2016-17 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Teams
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's basketball saw senior Mac Hoffman named to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team.
Hoffman has been recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes for his combined performance athletically and his efforts in the classroom. He and six others make up the NCAA Division I District 1 Team.
The Pleasanton, Calif., native boasts a 3.71 cumulative grade point average and is set to graduate in May with a degree in Systems Engineering.
Hoffman has started every game this season, averaging 21.4 minutes. He is second on the team with a field goal percentage of .563 and is recording 6.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest. In his senior campaign alone, Hoffman has notched six double-digit scoring nights, including a career-best 20 points in an outing against Holy Cross on Jan. 18. He finished 9-of-10 from the floor and 2-for-4 from the free throw line. The senior has also registered three double-figure rebounding nights with a career-high 12 coming in a victory over Binghamton on Dec. 21.
Hoffman is a team captain and a two-time Patriot League Honor Roll member. He is one-of-three conference players to post a GPA of 4.0 or higher during back-to-back spring semesters (2015 & 2016). He is also a two-time Distinguished Cadet Award Recipient and has been named to the Dean's List on six occasions. Hoffman earned the academy's Certificate of Achievement for highest course average in engineering economy & system dynamics simulation. He was a company executive officer and is a current member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society.
The Academic All-District® teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.
