Three Notch Double-Doubles in Win Over Colgate

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Juniors Janae McNeal and Aliyah Murray, and sophomore Madison Hovren all posted double-doubles as the Army West Point women's basketball team overcame an early 11-point deficit and earned a 57-47 Patriot League victory over Colgate on Wednesday evening at Christl Arena.
Army improves to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in the Patriot League following the win, while Colgate drops to 8-15 and 5-7.
McNeal totaled a season-high 17 points to lead all scorers while also adding 11 rebounds, and Hovren finished with 15 points and 11 boards for her second straight double-double and her 13th of the season. Murray registered 11 points and 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year.
Freshman Libby Tacka added career highs of seven points and four rebounds and junior Destinee Morris chipped in five points off the bench.
Colgate was paced by Kateri Stone's 16 points off the bench and an additional 13 points from Rachel Thompson.

- The Black Knights picked up their eighth straight win over the Raiders, dating back to a 64-62 victory on Jan. 21, 2015.
- Hovren, McNeal and Murray all recorded double-doubles to give Army three players with double-doubles in the same game for the first time since Aimee Oertner (USMA '16), Olivia Schretzman (USMA '15) and Anna Simmers (USMA '13) did so against Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 15, 2012.
- Hovren's double-double was her 16th of both this season and her career.
- Murray tallied her fourth double-double of the year and the fifth of her career.
- McNeal's double-double marked her first of the season and second of her career.
- Tacka set career standards with seven points and four rebounds.
- Army overcame an 11-point deficit to match its largest deficit in a victory this season, after the Cadets also trailed by 11 during an eventual 53-51 win over American on Jan. 15.
- Wednesday was Post Night at the Academy and seniors Alex Elzinga and Dani Failor learned where they will begin their Army careers following graduation.
- Elzinga will return to West Point as an athletic intern for a semester after graduating this spring, while Failor will head to flight school in Ft. Rucker, Ala.
- Elzinga branched Military Intelligence and Failor branched Aviation back in November.
TURNING POINT
- Army held a 50-47 lead with under two minutes to play in the game before McNeal converted a lay-up and drew a foul with 1:11 left. McNeal hit the ensuing free throw to put the Black Knights up 53-47.
- Army's defense held Colgate without a point on its remaining possessions to seal the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army led, 8-4, after a jumper from Murray at the 6:33 mark of the first quarter before the visitors ended the period on a 14-4 run that made the score 18-12 at the end of one.
- Stone led Colgate with eight points in the opening frame.
- The Raiders built their lead to 11 points, 24-13, by the 7:05 point of the second quarter after a lay-up from Summer King.
- Colgate held a 10-point advantage, 25-15, with 5:33 remaining in the second period.
- Army came back to trail by two, 27-25, at the halftime break after a 10-2 run during the last 3:20 of the half.
- The Black Knights scored eight straight points during their 10-2 run. Murray netted six points during the run, including a jumper just before the halftime buzzer.
- Army scored the first seven points of the third quarter to move out to a 32-27 lead with 7:32 left in the period.
- Tacka knocked in a three to give the Cadets the lead 1:00 into the frame before a pair of McNeal lay-ins brought the score to 32-27.
- Army got out to an eight-point lead, 38-30, at the 5:03 mark before Colgate closed the quarter with a 12-2 run that gave the Raiders a 42-40 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
- Stone hit a three-pointer 40 seconds into the fourth quarter to stretch Colgate's lead to 45-40, but the hosts came back with six unanswered points to move back in front, 46-45, with 5:55 on the clock.
- Thompson converted a lay-up with 4:10 to play to give Colgate back the lead, 47-46, but Army ended the contest on an 11-0 run to regain the lead and come away with the 10-point win.
- McNeal scored the final seven points of the game, including on an old-fashioned three-point play with 1:11 remaining.
