Official Patriot League Release
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army West Point men's basketball saw Tommy Funk named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team on Monday.
Funk becomes Army's eighth cadet-athlete selected to the all-rookie team in the last 10 years and first since the 2013-14 season.
The Warrington, Pa., native has started in every game this year for the Cadets and his 9.1 points per game has him fourth on the team. He notched a career-high 16 points in back-to-back contests against Navy and Boston University on Jan. 21 and 25, respectively. The rookie has also posted twin figures in 13 contests, while dishing out a career-high 12 assists in a contest with Holy Cross on Jan. 18. His career best in rebounds came in games with Fairfield and Lafayette, where he registered seven boards. Funk has posted at least four helpers 21 times this season and currently sits fifth in the Patriot League and second on the team with 4.5 helpers per outing.
Â
Bucknell junior center Nana Foulland was selected as the Patriot League Player and Defensive Player of the Year, becoming just the second league student-athlete to garner both honors in the same season.
Â
Foulland joined former Bison Mike Muscala - who received both honors following the 2012-13 season - as the only Patriot League player to be selected as the league's top player and defensive player since the conference began awarding a defensive player of the year during the 2004-05 season. The junior center finished eighth in the league in scoring (14.8 ppg), second in rebounding (7.9 rpg) and a league-leading 1.9 blocks per game for the regular-season champion Bison.
Â
Bucknell Head Coach Nathan Davis earns his second-consecutive Patriot League Coach of the Year honor after leading the Bison to their third-straight regular-season title. Davis becomes the fourth coach in league history to win the award in back-to-back years and the second to accomplish the feat during his first two seasons as a head coach in the league, joining former Lehigh coach Billy Taylor (2002-03, 2003-04). The Bison led the Patriot League in scoring offense (76.1 ppg) and scoring margin (+8.5) and have won six of the last seven regular-season titles.
Â
Colgate freshman forward Will Rayman was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, after earning five-time Patriot League The Rock Rookie of the Week awards. He led the Raiders with 14.4 points per game, while pulling down 4.5 rebounds per game during his rookie campaign. Early in league play, Rayman broke Adonal Foyle's Colgate single-game rookie scoring record when he posted 34 points against Lafayette. He is the fourth Raider to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Year honor.
Â
The 2016-17 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament begins with first round action on Tuesday. No. 8 Army (12-18, 6-12) hosts No. 9 American (8-21, 5-13) at Christl Arena with the opening tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
