Late Third Quarter Run Lifts Black Knights

BOSTON - The Army West Point women's basketball team went on a 10-0 run late in the third quarter and never looked back for a 64-52 win over Boston University on Wednesday night in Patriot League action at Case Gym.
The win gives Army a two-game lead over the Terriers in the race to host a quarterfinal. American defeated Navy, so the Eagles remain one-game back of Army for the third spot in the league standings.
Army (20-7, 11-5 Patriot League) got a huge game from Aliyah Murray, who went up against one of the best players in the league in Sophie Beaudry. Murray finished with a double-double, including a career high 16 rebounds. She also added 13 points.
Madison Hovren recorded a game-high 15 points to go with nine rebounds. Janae McNeal had a solid outing with 13 points and seven boards and four steals. Destinee Morris had six points to end the third quarter and 14 overall for the Black Knights.
Boston University (11-16, 9-7 Patriot League) saw Nia Irving score 13 points and add six rebounds. Beaudry had 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots in the loss.

- Army reaches the 20-win mark for the fifth consecutive season and for the sixth time under head coach Dave Magarity.
- It marks the 11th time in program history the Black Knights have reached 20 wins.
- The Black Knights and Terriers met for the 11th time in the series history and Army leads 8-3.
- Magarity is now 8-0 against the Terriers.
- Army is 4-2 at Boston University in six meetings.
- The two teams played each other for the first time this season and will matchup again next Wednesday at West Point.
- The starting lineup of Libby Tacka, Daizjah Morris, McNeal, Hovren and Murray was out for the tip for the sixth straight game.
- Hovren and Morris extended their starting streaks to 27 in a row, the longest on the team.
- Hovren recorded her 24th double figure game of the season and 28th of her career.
- Murray registered her sixth double-double of the year and seventh of career and also for the second-straight game.
- Murray reached double digits in points for the third straight game and posted her eighth double-digit rebound game of the year and nine of her career.
- Army had four players reach double figures for the first time since a 68-57 win over American on Feb. 11.
- Destinee Morris tallied 14 points for the second straight game and was 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.
- The Black Knights took advantage of Boston University's 20 turnovers with 22 points off those turnovers.
TURNING POINT
- The Black Knights ended the third quarter on a 10-0 run, including three free throws and a big three-pointer from Destinee Morris for six of the 10 points to give Army an 11-point lead at the end of the third.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights had an early 8-7 lead thanks to a pair of baseline jumpers and a layup from Murray, who had six of Army's first eight points.
- Army finished the quarter with a short 6-2 run to have a 14-11 lead at the end of one frame. Hovren ended up with four points in the first 10 minutes. Murray was the top scorer for Army, hitting 3-of-4 in the quarter for six points.
- The Black Knights continued their advantage and Destinee Morris hit a big three to give Army the lead 19-11.
- Boston University answered with an 8-0 run to even the score at 19-19 midway through the second quarter, including a pair of layups from Thompson.
- McNeal hit a jumper and Murray scored one of glass to stop the Terriers' momentum and Army led 23-19 with 4:19 left in the second quarter.
- The Black Knights held a slim 28-26 lead at the half thanks to 10 points from Hovren and eight from Murray.
- Half of Army's 28 points in the opening 20 minutes were off of Terrier turnovers and nine of the Black Knights' points were on second chance opportunities.
- Army was only up one at 39-38 and then went on a 10-0 run to close out the third quarter. Destinee Morris was key during run with three free throws and drained a three-pointer for six of the 10 points to give Army a 49-38 lead at the end of three.
- The Black Knights then went on a quick 5-0 run early in the fourth, highlighted by a huge three-pointer from the corner by Destinee Morris to give Army its largest lead at 58-42 with 5:19 left.
- Army was able to hit it free throws down the stretch and protect the late lead to win 64-52.
