WEST POINT, N.Y. – After their outstanding performances on the ice, court and mat, senior Parker Gahagen, sophomore Jordan Fox and senior Trevor Smith were all named the Army Athletic Association Athletes of the Week.
Â
The hockey team swept Holy Cross over the weekend with Gahagen pacing the efforts in net with 62 saves. The Buffalo, N.Y., native eclipsed Army's all-time saves record and now boasts 3,040 in his career.
Â
Gahagen backs the third-best penalty killing unit in the nation and has not allowed a power play goal in four games. The senior is now riding a four-game winning streak and five-game unbeaten streak. With the weekend sweep, Army has clinched a first-round bye for the Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament and secured home ice advantage for the quarterfinals.

Â
Fox had one of the biggest games of his career Saturday for the men's basketball team. His career game to help the Black Knights overcome a 25-point second half deficit to defeat service-academy rival Navy, 71-68, in the teams' annual Star Game. He finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range (career-high in makes), while dishing out seven assists. He also had three rebounds and two steals.
Â
Fox was especially important during Army's comeback, scoring 10 points, with consecutive 3-pointers during a 33-8 run. Then, with Navy leading by one with 19 seconds left, the sophomore swooshed his final 3-pointer of the night to hand Army the lead for good. He finished scoring 15 of his 22 points after the 12:40 mark.
Â
The Jackson County, Ky., native added to his impressive week with 10 points and four rebounds in the Black Knights' victory at Holy Cross on Wednesday. Fox averaged 16.0 points, while shooting 50 percent from deep during the 2-0 week.

Â
Smith entered the final bout of Sunday's Star Match against Navy with a 16-14 lead in the team score, needing a win at heavyweight to preserve the victory. After battling through two scoreless periods, the Ripon, Calif., native scored a reversal with 30 seconds left to take a 2-0 lead. Upon his opponents attempt to escape, Smith returned him to the mat on his back earning a two nearfall points.
Â
He went on to take a 5-0 decision over Joshua Roetman to give the Black Knights their seventh victory over Navy in program history. The win was also the second under third-year head coach Kevin Ward, who became the first coach in program history to win two out of his first three star matches. He is also one of two coaches to come through West Point who have multiple victories over the Midshipmen.Â
Â
Smith improved to 16-11 in his senior season and 6-5 in duals. The victory over Navy closed the gap in the 2016-17 Army-Navy Star Series, presented by USAA, to 9-8 after Army trailed 8-1 after Dec. 3.
