Women’s Lacrosse Sets Sights on 2017 Season

WEST POINT, N.Y. – With the 2017 lacrosse season a week away, the Army West Point women's lacrosse team has been voted ninth in the preseason Patriot League Poll.
"The core of the team now has over a year of Division 1 experience under their belts and we add to them a super talented freshman class," said Noto Family Women's Lacrosse Coach Kristen Skiera. "We have more upperclassmen as leaders who now know what it takes to succeed at this level, and the team has set the bar high for this season. We really want to use our out of conference games at the beginning of the season to continue to grow and work on our execution so that we are a tough team to beat once Patriot League games roll around."
Loyola was slated first with 168 points and 18 first-place votes. The Midshipmen followed with the other two first-place votes and 141 points total. Lehigh (124), Boston U. (123) and Colgate (36) rounded out the top five.
The Black Knights received 33 points in the poll to slot them ninth overall, ahead of American (30), but behind Bucknell (81), Holy Cross (48) and Lafayette (47).
Being just the Army's second varsity lacrosse season, the Cadets welcome multiple new faces and new rules and challenges for the seasoned players.
"This pre-season we have been working hard to adjust to the new rules of the game and the strategies and pace that go along with the 90 second shot clock," added Skiera. "We have implemented new schemes on both sides of the ball that our returners and freshman alike are still working to grasp. For the last four weeks we have been competing hard against each other so we are excited to get out there and face our first opponent of the 2017 season in just over a week."
Army will play at Michie Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 11, to take on Marist at 1 p.m. The event is free to fans.
