Lindner Named Preseason All-Patriot League

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team saw senior Kris Lindner voted to the 2017 Preseason All-Patriot League Team on Tuesday.

Lindner, a 2016 All-Patriot League First Team selection, was the team's leading hitter last season after starting 46 of the team's 48 games at shortstop. His .315 clip led the Black Knights and ranked 10th league-wide, recording a team-high 52 hits in 165 at bats.

The Morehead City, N.C., native's on-base percentage of .430 ranked fourth among Patriot League hitters, while his 14 stolen bases placed him second. His 13 hit by pitches were the most in the Patriot League. He also led Army with 35 runs scored, eight doubles, 21 walks and a slugging percentage of .394.Â

The conference also announced Tuesday its 2017 baseball preseason poll.

Last year's Patriot League runner-up, Holy Cross was tabbed first with six first-place votes and 46 overall points. The reigning conference champions, Navy, were projected second with five first-place nods and 43 points.

Bucknell and Lehigh came in tied for third with 30 points each, while Army (13 points) and Lafayette (12 points) closed out the poll in fifth and six place, respectively.Â
First-year head coach Jim Foster begins his tenure in West Point with several starters in place, including preseason all-league senior second baseman Lindner and 2016 Second Team All-Patriot League junior catcher Jon Rosoff (.314 BA, 16 RBI). Sophomore RHP Daniel Burggraaf returns after going 3-2 with a 3.21 ERA in nine starts (42.0 IP), as does junior lefty Jeremy Mortensen who started 11 games, completing 54.2 innings last season.

The voting for the preseason poll, All-Patriot League Team and major awards was conducted by baseball head coaches and sports information directors, who were not permitted to vote for their own team or student-athletes.

The Black Knights youthful roster consists of four seniors, eight juniors, 11 sophomores and 15 rookies. Foster and his squad open their 2017 campaign Friday when they take on service-academy rival Air Force and No. 33 Tulane down in Louisiana. The Cadets meet the Falcons first at 12 p.m.in Baton Rouge before traveling to face off with the Green Wave in New Orleans at 6:30 p.m.
