ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army snapped its four-game unbeaten streak with the 6-1 win over the Purple Eagles.
- The back-to-back goals in the second stanza were clocked eight seconds apart, the closest range this season.
- This fueled a five-goal period which was the most for the Black Knights this season, besting their four-goal second period against Holy Cross.
- Army had six unanswered goals in the game, the most since last February when it defeated Bentley 6-2.
- Taylor Maruya tallied three assists to match his performance in October opposite Sacred Heart.
- Army was led by Brendan Soucie who tallied two goals and an assist. Tipper Higgins, Conor Andrle, Ian Mansfield and C.J. Reuschlein were also in the goal column in the game.
- Parker Gahagen stood strong in net with 22 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Niagara jumped ahead 1-0 six minutes into the first frame when Derek Brown cut off the Army defender and popped the puck over Gahagen's glove hand.
- The Black Knights scored the equalizer when Soucie faded to the circle and ripped it to the top left corner of the net. He was assisted by Nick DeCenzo and Brendan McGuire who were swinging the puck along the boards.
- Army scored eight seconds apart to kick off the second stanza with goals from Higgins and Andrle. Higgins' goal was off an impressive wraparound, while Andrle tapped it past Jackson Tichroeb in tight quarters.
- That is the closest margin that the Black Knights scored this season as Soucie, Maruya, Tyler Pham and Dalton MacAfee picked up assists.
- The Cadets added another goal at the 14:00 minute mark, when Maruya passed to Michael Wilson who carried the puck up the ice. At the last second he dumped it back to Mansfield who brought the score to 4-1 in favor of Army.
- Six minutes later, Soucie struck again with a sniper shot to Guillaume Therien's hip. He was assisted by Conor Andrle on the play.
- Reuschlein gave Army its fifth goal of the stanza. He was one-on-one with Therien and backhanded it over the goalline to score his first of the season.
- Ryan Nick and Mike Preston helped clear the puck up the ice to Reuschlein and were credited with the assists.
