Army Set for Hockey East Games at Merrimack, UNH

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After taking on Colgate from the ECAC last weekend, Army turns its attention to the Hockey East. The Black Knights will continue their out-of-conference schedule with contests at Merrimack and #13 New Hampshire this Friday and Saturday.

- Army's last contest against a Hockey East school came against UMass early last season.
- This weekend's series of games continues Army's five-game non-league portion of its schedule with the final four being played on the road.
- Fans will have plenty of options to follow the games with a video broadcast via merrimacathletics.com for $6.95 and on Army's radio affiliate 1420-AM WLNA.
- Saturday's contest against the Wildcats will be streamed on ESPN3 and will also be available on both affiliate radio stations in progress after the Army-Navy football game is wrapped up.

- The Warriors enter the weekend with a 2-9-3 record with wins over Bentley (5-2) and UMass (5-3).
- Merrimack also skated to a 6-6 tie opposite #10 Providence three weeks ago.
- Jace Hennig paces the Warriors' offense with 13 points, including three goals on the power play.
- Merrimack ranks 14th in the nation on the power play with a .222 percentage.
- The Warriors lead the Black Knights 23-16-1 in the all-time series and have an unblemished 13-0 record at home.
- However, Army did come away with a 3-2 victory in the last meeting when Merrimack was ranked 20th.

- Army and UNH will renew their rivalry this weekend with the last game being played in December of 1973.
- At the time, Jack Riley was behind the bench as the head coach and current head coach Brian Riley, Jack's son, was an infant.
- The Black Knights lead the Wildcats 16-14 in the all-time series that was primarily played at West Point.
- Only three known games were played at UNH, in which the host holds a 2-1 advantage.
- The current team is ranked 13th/15th and picked up a 6-3 victory over RPI Wednesday night.
- The Wildcats are tops in the Hockey East and third nationally with a .914 penalty kill percentage, just ahead of the Black Knights.
- Daniel Tirone backs the UNH defense and ranks second in the nation with four shutouts.
LAST WEEK: BEAT COLGATE
- The Black Knights picked up their third win over a ranked opponent this season with a 3-1 victory over Colgate.
- Jared Dempsey backed the team with 24 saves to pick up his first collegiate win in the rookie's first career start.
- Alex Wilkinson netted the game-winning goal for the Black Knights on the power play and added an assist later on in the night.
- Brendan McGuire and Mason Krueger also netted goals for Army, while Dalton MacAfee assisted on two goals.
- It was the fourth straight game that the Black Knights scored on the man-advantage.
- The D-pair of Wilkinson and MacAfee lead the AHA in defensive scoring.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
- The Black Knights continue to gain national attention and received three votes in this week's USCHO.com National Poll.
- It is the sixth time this season the Black Knights have appeared in the USCHO.com Poll.
- Army is 3-0 against nationally ranked opponents after defeating #19 Air Force twice and #17 Colgate.
ALL ABOUT THE DEFENSE
- Army's D-Pair of MacAfee and Wilkinson has been a standout on both ends of the ice.
- MacAfee leads the team with 13 assists and ranks fifth nationally among defensive scoring with a 0.94 points per game average.
- Wilkinson tops Army with three game-winning goals this season to rank tied for second in the country.
- The pair's also a staple on the Black Knights' penalty kill unit which has a .885 efficiency and is fourth in college hockey.
