Black Knights Travel to #10 Minnesota for Series

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team is back in action after a three week hiatus at #10 Minnesota for a two-game series at the 3M Arena at Mariucci.

- It will be the second game in a row that the Black Knights are skating on Olympic Sheets.
- Army and the Gophers have only met twice before in 1963 and 1966 with Minnesota taking both games.
- The two-game series will be broadcast on a number of media outlets for fans to enjoy.
- Fox Sports North will carry a televised broadcast and also provides an online stream for subscribers to the channel.
- The Army Sports Network will carry the games for fans in the Hudson Valley with 1420-AM WLNA featuring the game Friday night and 1420-AM WLNA along with 1260-AM WBNR both airing the game on Saturday.

- The Gophers enter the series ranked 10th in the country in the USCHO.com poll and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine poll.
- Minnesota is 10-9-1 this season and 4-7-1 in the BIG 10. Like the Black Knights, the Gophers have not played since Dec. 9.
- The Rem Pitlick is the team's leading producer with nine goals and 11 assists. He and Dominic Franco of Army are tied for 49th in the country with 1.00 points per game. Casey Mittelstadt and Tommy Novak each boast 17 points on the year.
- Mittelstadt is sixth in the country in freshmen scoring (0.84 points per game).
- Eric Schierhorn has started in net for all 19 of Minnesota's games and has a .912 save percentage and 2.45 goals against average.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Black Knights continued out of conference play with a 4-3 victory over #13 UNH and a deficit to Merrimack, 4-1.
- It was Army's fourth win over a ranked opponent this season and is unbeaten in those contests.
- Dominic Franco led the Black Knights with three points on the weekend after netting the first game-winner of his career opposite UNH and added an assist in both games.
- Jared Dempsey added two starts in net to his resume, and on Friday tied his career-high of 24 saves before setting a new mark at 37 on Saturday.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
- The Black Knights continue to gain national attention and received three votes in this week's USCHO.com National Poll.
- It is the eighth time this season the Black Knights have appeared in the USCHO.com Poll.
- Army is 4-0 against nationally ranked opponents after defeating #19 Air Force twice, #17 Colgate and #13 UNH.
ALL ABOUT THE DEFENSE
- Army's D-Pair of MacAfee and Wilkinson has been a standout on both ends of the ice.
- MacAfee leads the team with 13 assists and ranks 15th nationally among defensive scoring with a 0.83 points per game average.
- Wilkinson tops Army with three game-winning goals this season to rank tied for fifth in the country.
- The pair's also a staple on the Black Knights' penalty kill unit which has a .863 efficiency and is ninth in college hockey.
