2018 Baseball Schedule
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point baseball announced its 2018 schedule Tuesday afternoon, which features top-tier competition.Â
Second-year head coach Jim Foster has prepared a 52-game slate for his team, who made it to the postseason last year for the first time since 2014. That schedule consists of 18 games played in the friendly confines of Doubleday Field at Johnson Stadium.
Of those 52 games, Army will face five teams that made it to the NCAA tournament just a year ago. The Black Knights will also have five games against teams that finished 2017 in the Top 100 in RPI.
"As we continue to build the program I think it is important to challenge ourselves as much as possible but also give our team an opportunity to develop and have some success," Foster said. "Ultimately, as will be our goals every year, we will earn the right to play in the post season, compete for a Patriot League title and play in the NCAA tournament"
The Cadets open their season down in Florida when they meet Big Ten foe and 2016 NCAA tournament participant Michigan in a four-game series beginning Feb. 16.
The following weekend the Black Knights will again face an NCAA tournament team from a year ago when they travel to College Park, Md., to face off against Maryland for three games.Â
Army will then head down to USA Baseball's National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., where they will meet up with Bryant, Niagara and Boston College from March 2-4.
Foster takes his team back down to Florida a few days later for the team's annual spring break trip. During that 10-game trip, the Cadets will have a three-game series with Rutgers in Fort Myers, Fla., two games at Stetson, one game against Rhode Island (played at Stetson), before wrapping up with three contests at South Florida.
Another highlight to Army's schedule will be its annual Hudson Valley Baseball Classic showdown with Marist on April 25. That game will be played nearby at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y., home of the Hudson Valley Renegades who compete in the Class A New York-Penn League.
The Patriot League baseball format has changed for the 2018Â season and each team will play five times throughout the course of the conference slate.Â
The 2018Â Patriot League Tournament will be played over two weekends, with the semifinals scheduled for May 12-13 and the championship series slated for May 19-20. The top four seeds will qualify for the postseason tournament and games will be played at the home field of the highest seed. Both rounds will follow the best-of-three format and the winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.Â
NCAA regional action is scheduled for June 1-4, followed by the super regionals June 8-11. College baseball's national champion will be crowned in Omaha, Neb., at the College World Series on June 16-27.
