UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Army West Point wrestling team opened the dual season with a 45-3 setback against top-ranked Penn State at Rec Hall on Thursday evening.

In front of a sellout crowd of 6,320, the Nittany Lions improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Black Knights fell to 0-1.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES

Lane Peters, Knox Fuller, Noah Stewart and Bobby Heald all competed in their first dual match for the Black Knights.
Trey Chalifoux evened his career record in duals at 6-6 in the first bout of the evening.
Chalifoux moved above .500 for the season, improving to 3-2.

Head Coach Kevin Ward – "I thought that the score at the end didn't really reflect the progress we've made. We knew coming in that we would have to wrestle our best to have a chance in this match, and we just made way too many mistakes. Too many mental lapses against real quality opponents, and they made us pay. I thought our effort wasn't bad. There were mistakes, but we never quit. This is a match that we should be able to learn a lot from. There is a gap between us and them, but the thing is, it doesn't have to be as big as it was tonight. We will learn and move on."
