Men's XC Set for Northeast Regionals

West Point, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's cross country team will battle at the Northeast Regional Championships this Friday. The meet will take place in Buffalo, N.Y., at 12 p.m.

Coach's Corner:
"We are better than we were a year ago," said head coach Mike Smith. "We are better one through seven this year than we were a year ago. Our results have been better, and we can expect to perform at a higher level than we did a year ago. The nature of this event is such that its more of a controlled race for a long time, and then a really hard fast finish. So, our guys have to be ready for what comes at the end, and we typically are."

"They are young. We are really depending on some sophomores and at least one freshman. Our youth has carried us this year and will have to do so at this meet to be successful. I would say that our men's team will perform at a higher level than they have, but this is a tricky meet so we will see how that all plays out."

Army Notes

Army heads into this race after placing first at the Patriot League Championships, the first time Army has won this title since 2008.
Last year the squad finished 12th of 46 teams
Senior John Valeri was the leader for Army in this meet last season, placing 48th with a time of 31:49.09.
He was followed closely by sophomore Robbie Santoyo who earned 82nd place with a time of 32:21.01.
The Black Knights placed third in 2001, their best record to date.
