November 07, 2017 | Wrestling
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Ben Harvey and junior Rocco Caywood of the Army West Point wrestling team found themselves ranked in the national polls after the organizations released updated rankings on Tuesday.
Harvey is ranked 19th by both InterMat and FloWrestling, while being slated 17th in The Open Mat's poll. Caywood, who began the year ranked 20th by The Open Mat, jumped three spots to No. 17 in their rankings.
Harvey moved into the rankings for the first time in his collegiate career after a 3-1 performance at the Hokie Open that resulted in a runner-up finish. The highlight of the tournament for the New Palestine, Ind., native was taking down then-No. 7 Ethan Ramos of North Carolina with a 6-4 decision in the semifinals. The victory got Harvey his first win over a ranked opponent.
Caywood jumped three spots in the rankings after an electric start to the season. The junior 197-pounder began the Hokie Open with a pair of major decisions over Alec Schenk (Duke) and John D'Agostino (Old Dominion) en route to a third-place finish in the tournament. The Toledo, Ohio native posted a 4-1 record in the tournament, including a forfeit victory over then-No. 8 Danny Chaid in the third-place bout.
The Black Knights return to the mat on Thursday at 7 p.m., as they travel to University Park, Pa., to duel the top-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions.
