HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST PERIOD (1-0 CAN)
- The two teams almost went into the locker room scoreless, but Mike Sabitini gave the visitors a 1-0 lead with 1:24 left in the period.
- He gloved down a bouncing back and beat Bruns on the stick side just inside the post for his third of the year.
- Army had quality chances in the period, including Nick DeYoung getting the chance to hit an open net but Cameron Heath kept the puck out of the net for the Griffs.
SECOND PERIOD (1-1)
- The Black Knights evened the score with its 12th power play goal of the season as Evancho found the back of the net from the high slot.
- Army won the offensive zone face-off late in the power play and Evancho skated open and beat Urbani on the glove side for his third of the year.
- DeCenzo and DeYoung assisted on the goal.
THIRD PERIOD (3-2 CAN)
- The Golden Griffins scored two goals in a span of less than minutes to take a two-goal advantage into the final minutes of the game.
- Matt Hoover scored his fourth of the season with an assist to Jesse Pereira. Pereira blocked a shot on the defensive end and broke into Army's zone in an odd-man rush and found Hoover wide open in front of the net for the score.
- Ryan Schmelzer gave Canisius some much-needed insurance with a power play goal from Nick Hutchinson and Dylan McLaughlin and with 8:04 remaining, the Griffs had a 3-1 advantage.
- Army was able to get one back with 23 seconds remaining as Fidler jammed home a loose puck in front with an extra skater, but the Black Knights couldn't overcome the two-goal deficit in the third.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights welcome Colgate on Dec. 2 for a 4:05 p.m. puck drop as Army plays its first non-conference game of the year.
