Army Falls to Canisius in Overtime

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team suffered a 4-3 overtime setback to Canisius at home Friday night. The Black Knights tied the game in the second period, but the Golden Griffins scored 1:33 into the extra time for the win. Â

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- It was Army's third overtime game in four games tonight.
- The Black Knights' first goal of the night came from Kevin Dineen.
- It was the rookie's first career goal and second point of the year.
- Trevor Fidler netted his second of the season for the 16th of his career.
- Conor Andrle's assist on the goal marked the 300th career point for the senior class.
- Tyler Pham notched his seventh career power play goal and second man-up goal of the season. He now totals 86 points in his career.
- John Zimmerman returned to the Black Knights' lineup and garnered an assist, while Tucker DeYoung, Zach Evancho, Dalton MacAfee and Alex Wilkinson also added helpers on the night.
- MacAfee now totals 11 helpers and is tied for third among Atlantic Hockey players in assists per game with 0.79.
- He is tied for fourth in power play points (0.50 per game) and is second in the ranks of defensemen scoring at 0.93.
- Cole Bruns made 30 saves in net for the Black Knights.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PERIOD ONE (2-1 CAN)

- Canisius scored halfway through the period to go ahead 1-0. Dylan McLaughlan carried the puck behind and set up the goal for Alex Jaeckel.
- The Black Knights knotted the game at 1-1 three minutes later. DeYoung cleared the puck to Zimmerman who was waiting at the Canisius blueline. Dineen was awaiting on the doorstep and kept attacking at the loose puck until it passed through Daniel Urbani's legs past the goal line.
- It was McLaughlan who netted the go-ahead for the Golden Griffins. He snuck out to Army's blue line ahead of the defense and went stick side on Bruns to score.
PERIOD TWO (3-3)
- The Black Knights tied the score just five minutes into the second stanza when Andrle passed the puck towards the goal.
- Fidler was knocked backwards on the play, but managed to get his stick on it one handed for it to trickle 5:22 into the period.
- Canisius rallied on the power play five minutes later to re-claim the lead when Jack Stander scored.
- The Black Knights were quick to respond with a man-up goal of their own with 4:23 left in the frame. Army's power play unit worked the puck around the perimeter before MacAfee found Pham in the middle who scored.
PERIOD THREE (3-3)
- The Black Knights saw a chance with 5:34 to go when Blake Box sniped one from the right circle, but after review it was no good and the score remained tied at 3-3.
- Army was awarded a power play with just over two minutes to go in the game with several opportunities, but the score remained at a stalemate and for the third time in four games, the Black Knights went into overtime.
OVERTIME (4-3 CAN)
- Canisius scored the game-winning goal 1:33 into the overtime frame.
- Matt McLeod fed it down to Nick Hutchinson who went high with it to beat the netminder.
