Three Black Knights Garner All-Patriot League Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Three of the Army West Point volleyball seniors earned All-Patriot League recognition announced by the league on Monday.

Carolyn Bockrath and Vanessa Wesley were named to the first team, while Amber Clay was chosen to the second team.

Bockrath garnered first team honors for the second straight season and completes her career with postseason recognition in all four years. The Newport Harbor, Calif., native eclipsed 1,000 kills earlier this season and now boasts 1,094 in her career to rank eighth all-time at Army.

During her 2017 campaign, the middle blocker posted a career-high 329 kills for a 3.50 kills per set average. She also has a .393 hitting percentage to rank her second in the Patriot League. The .393 slates her third in Army's single-season records for hitting percentage following her previous record of .425 in 2015 and Jamie Clark's .405 in 2008. She has notched 17 double-digit kills matches this season and 59 in her career. Â

Wesley earned the first team honor for the first time of her career and was chosen to the second team her junior year. The middle blocker is an explosive player for the Black Knights who produces 2.57 kills per set and has a .377 hitting percentage.

In league-only matches, the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native hits at .412 to rank second in the Patriot League. Wesley has recorded double-digit kills in 11 matches this season and 40 throughout her career at Army. She leads the Black Knights in blocks per set and is seventh in the league with 0.92 per game.

Clay was named to the second team for the first postseason nod of her career. The Saint John, Ind., native leads the Black Knights in double-double performances with eight this season and 22 in her career. Clay has produced 17 double-digit kill matches this season for 49 in her career and 12 double-digit dig matches in 2017 for 38 in her career as a Black Knights.

The outside hitter is 24 kills off from 1,000 in her career and has tallied a career-high 285 so far this season. She averages 3.17 kills per set and 2.71 digs per set.

Voting for the Patriot League Women's Volleyball All-League teams and major awards was conducted by the League's nine head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own student athletes.
