Army Tops Cornell; Will Host CSFL Championship

With the win, Army will host the University of Pennsylvania in the inaugural CSFL Championship game on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at Shea Stadium.
The Black Knights improved to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 in the north division, while the Big Red dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the division.
Junior quarterback Keegan West led the offense through the air with a season-high 251 yards and a touchdown, completing 17-of-30 passes. Sophomore running back Jake Gigliotti continued to provide a spark through the ground game, rushing for 71 yards and three scores on 17 carries. Senior Ty Galyean and junior Clayton Carter each hauled in a game-high seven receptions, going for 94 and 60 yards, respectively. Carter also caught Army's lone touchdown of the game on a nine-yard pass from West.
The Black Knights allowed just 115 total yards of offense on the defensive side of the ball, the second-fewest this season. Juniors James Scroggins and Zach Lechthaler made a team-high five tackles and combined for six tackles for loss.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights gained more than 400 yards of total offense for the fourth time in 2017 and third consecutive game.
- Army is now 59-16 in the all-time series with Cornell.
- This was the Black Knights' third shutout of the year.
- Army eclipsed the 50-point mark for the fifth time in 2017 and third-straight contest.
- Senior Tanner Andrews documented his first-career touchdown on a 50-yard interception return.
- Andrews now has 13 interceptions in his career.
- It was Army's third defensive touchdown of the season.
- Gigliotti contributed his 10th rushing touchdown of the year.
- Gigliotti scored multiple touchdowns for the fourth time in 2017.
- West threw for a season-high 251 yards, setting a new single-season best as he now as 1,323 this year.
- He also set a new personal-best with his 15th touchdown pass of the season.
- The Black Knights have now forced 17 turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- On its second possession of the game, Army marched 70 yards in eight plays to break the scoreless tie at the 8:54 mark when Gigliotti scampered into the end zone from one yard out.
- The following drive was looking promising for the Big Red as they drove 24 yards before Andrews intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yards for the touchdown to make it a 14-0 game.
- Army's special teams unit came up big on the ensuing kickoff, forcing a fumble and returning it to the Cornell one-yard line. Junior Jaylen Collier pounded the ball in on the following play to give the Black Knights a three-score lead.
- The Black Knights added scores from Gigliotti and Carter in the second quarter to take a 34-0 lead into halftime.
- Gigliotti scored his third touchdown of the game at 5:42 in the third quarter on a 21-yard rush to break the 40-point plateau.
- Quarterbacks Brady Miller and Ryan Sullivan added late scores on the ground to cap the scoring.

- The Black Knights will host the inaugural CSFL Championship game on Nov. 10 at Shea Stadium against the Penn Quakers. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
