Army Plays to Scoreless Overtime Draw with Navy

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team played to an even 0-0 draw against service-academy rival Navy in a Patriot League match on Friday night at Malek Stadium.
The Black Knights picked up their second draw of the season and moved to 3-9-2 overall and 1-4-1 in Patriot League action. The Mids, who have come out on top in all five of their league games this season, recorded their first draw and now hold a 5-0-1 Patriot League record and 12-3-1 overall mark.

Army will stay at west Point and play host to Boston U. on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for a Patriot League tilt at Malek Stadium.

ARMY GAME NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Prior to the start of the game, the Black Knights honored their five seniors Brianna Nicholas, Madison McGinn, Lauren McGovern, Kimberly Comstock and Clare Shea as well as senior manager Blake Hansen on senior day.
- It was the first draw in the Army-Navy series since Sept. 18, 2015.
- Freshman Sydney Cassalia made six saves on the night and now has 52 for the year.
- It was Army's second scoreless tie this season with the first coming back on Aug. 20 on the road against UMass-Lowell.
- The Army defense did not allow a single Navy shot in the second overtime period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Navy had a good scoring chance in the 11th minute when Ash Fairow was on a breakaway and fired a shot at the Army net, but Cassalia made the early denial.
- In the 90th minute, Navy had a shot blocked before Cadie Higginson got a solid touch on it. Higginson's shot appeared to be on its way into the back of the net, but Cassalia leaped up into the air and punched it out of play to preserve the shutout.
- In the final minute of the first overtime, Fairow once again was one-on-one with Cassalia after receiving a through ball. However, Fairow's shot saved by Cassalia.
