January 09, 2017 | Women's Basketball
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sophomore Madison Hovren was named Patriot League Player of the Week for the second week in a row, and for the fifth time this season, after posting a pair of double-doubles last week.
Â
The Patriot League Player of the Week recognition is the fifth this season for Hovren, and is also the fifth of her career.
Â
Hovren averaged 27.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in two games last week, including a 76-73 triple overtime-win against Lafayette on Jan. 5 and a 71-62 setback at Loyola on Jan. 8.
Â
The sophomore scored a career-high 35 points and added 10 boards, three blocks and three assists in the triple-overtime victory versus Lafayette. She went 17-of-23 from the foul line, with her 17 free throws marking a career high. Hovren netted all seven of Army's points in the third overtime period to help the Black Knights come away with the three-point win.
Â
Hovren led Army with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the Loyola game.
Â
Hovren paces the Patriot League with 20.9 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. She is one of only two players in the Division I ranks to average at least 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, along with Northwestern's Nia Coffey (20.8 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game).
Â
Hovren has won five of the nine Patriot League Player of the Week awards handed out so far this season. Her five mentions are two shy of Kelsey Minato's (USMA '16) single-season record of seven Patriot League Player of the Week awards she garnered last year.
Â
Army (11-4 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when it faces Colgate on the road for a 12 p.m. game.
