WEST POINT, N.Y. – Due to his outstanding performance on and off the ice, senior goaltender Parker Gahagen has been named a 2017 Hobey Baker Nominee, announced by the foundation Monday.
Â
The ballot of the top-10 finalist will be released at a later date after the initial fan vote. Fans are encouraged to show support for Gahagen by voting for him daily at hobeybaker.com/vote.

The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation gives the honor out annually to the top player in NCAA hockey. The foundation promotes college hockey by recognizing and honoring the legends of college hockey and outstanding U.S. collegiate hockey players who epitomize the characteristics of Hobey Baker's hockey skills, leadership, character, sportsmanship and scholastic achievement.
Â
On the ice, Gahagen ranks nationally in multiple categories and has already cracked the West Point record books. During his junior campaign, the netminder led the nation with a .937 save percentage. That mark also set the single-season Army record. He recorded a career-high 14 wins last season along with a program-high 1,024 saves.
Â
He has followed that up this season by tallying five shutouts to rank him first in the nation in the category. The five shutouts also place him second in Army's single-season lore, and ties him for first all-time in Atlantic Hockey history.
Â
Gahagen played in his 100th career game this past weekend and boasts a total of 2,859 career saves, just 154 shy of the Academy record. He has posted nine shutouts to tie him for second in program history and has the third-best goals against average at 2.40.
