Coaches Comments
- Mike Smith - Director of Track and Field/Cross Country "We had some really competitive efforts today from some old guys and some young guys. Our captain Nick Beavers finished second in the 60-meter final and ran about as well as I have seen him run since I have been here. I thought Tyrell Maddox was very impressive in winning the 500 meter tonight. He is a fierce competitor and tonight that carried him to the win with a nice time improvement. I always look for people to improve. That should happen as the season goes along and fitness improves. So, I am not surprised to see better marks at each meet. The impressive thing about some of our performances tonight was the way we competed to win events. A good example was Keagan Smith in the mile where he finished second. The winner ran 4:00 and the race was way over Keagan's head if you look at his person best (4:15), but that did not deter him and he had a nice personal best. He is fearless. We did not bring our whole team this weekend as look ahead to the championship meets but the guys that we did bring did a nice job of competing to win. We are setting ourselves up nicely for the championship season."
