WEST POINT, N.Y. – Led by Nathan Goff, who was sixth in the All-Around, the Army West Point gymnastics team finished third at the 26th annual West Point Open on Friday night. Three gymnasts moved forward to the individual finals including Goff, Ryan Wilson and Seth Cannon.  Â

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Led by Nathan Goff, who was sixth in the All-Around, the Army West Point gymnastics team finished third at the 26th annual West Point Open on Friday night. Three gymnasts moved forward to the individual finals including Goff, Ryan Wilson and Seth Cannon.  Â

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Penn State (412.35) won the Open for the fourth-straight year and 19th time overall holding off the advances of the Huskers (410.60) who placed second. Army was third with 393.55 points edging out Arizona State (392.75), Navy (391.25), Springfield (390.55) and Temple (372.25).
- Michael Burns of the Nittany Lions captured the All-Around scoring with an 82.70 after finishing among the top three in three of the six events to include first on high bar.
- Goff was the Black Knights' top finisher as he placed sixth in the All-Around (80.25) to include a runner-up finish on the high bar (14.0). He was seventh on the vault (13.75).
- The junior qualified for the parallel bar and high bar finals.
- Wilson and Cannon also moved forward, both on the vault which was Army's premier event on the evening.
- Wilson tied for second on vault with a 14.25 along with Brayden Borremeo of Penn State.
- Cannon also competed for the All-Around with a top mark of 14.1 on vault to tie for seventh.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights started the evening on floor exercise, earning a team score of 65.200 to stand fifth after the opening event. Erik Del Cid paced Army with a mark of 13.750
- Next up for Army was the pommel horse and Elijah-Ty Phelps was the top performer for the Cadets in the discipline after averaging 13.150.
- The Black Knights took to still rings for their third event of the night. Ryan Wilson finished with a mark of 13.700 to pace the hosts and Nick McAfee was Army's second-best finisher on still rings with a 13.550 score.
- Army went to vault next, with Wilson leading the squad with a 14.250 mark. Cannon wasn't far behind in the event, as he posted a 14.100.
- The vault was the Black Knights' top event with three people scoring over 14.0. Army compiled a team total of 68.95 to finish behind Nebraska (70.95) and Penn State (69.45).
- Goff led the way for the Cadets with a 13.750 on parallel bars, while Cannon and McAfee each posted a 13.400.
- The Cadets' final event was the high bar with Goff placing second with a 14.0. The next-best finisher was Leo Genders at a 13.3.
UP NEXT
- Goff, Cannon and Wilson will all represent Army in the individual finals Saturday night beginning at 7 p.m.
