T&F Captures Three Patriot League Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army West Point men's and women's track and field teams bring home three Patriot League honors on Wednesday.
Ben Sims was named the M-F Athletic Patriot League Male Track Athlete of the Week, Lee Bares was named Male Field Athlete of the Week and Briyah Brown captured Female Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Sims won the 60-meter dash at the Wagner College Invitational by turning in an IC4A-qualifying time of 6.81. Sims' time is the best in the Patriot League this season and tied for 22nd-best time in NCAA Division I.Â

Bares won gold at the Wagner Invitational by vaulting over the bar at 4.95 meters to earn an IC4A-qualifying mark. Bares now has the top-two vaults in the Patriot League this season, having also cleared 5.06 meters in the Crowell Open in December.

Brown set an Army program record in the shot put, placing second with a throw of 15.27 meters at the Wagner College Invitational. Brown's throw is the best in the Patriot League this season and tied for 15th-best in NCAA Division I. Brown also finished eighth in the weight throw, with a distance of 15.61 meters.

The Black Knights' return to action this weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. The two day event will kick off on Friday Jan. 13 with events starting at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, field events start at 11:00 a.m., while the running events will start at 1:00 p.m.
