WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army Athletic Association named senior wrestler Russ Parsons as its Athlete of the Week for his 3-0 performance at the American Duals last weekend.
Parsons improved to 16-3 on the season and 5-1 in duals, a mark that is tied for the team lead. The Clinton, N.J., native notched win No. 70 of his career with a 6-2 decision over Cole Moseley of American before defeating Wyoming's 12th-ranked 157-pounder, Archie Colgan, 6-1.
The team's co-captain's efforts helped the Black Knights earn their first win against a ranked opponent since 2011-12 when it defeated 25th-ranked Harvard, 24-17.
Army went 2-1 on the weekend, earning wins over American (18-15) and 23rd-ranked Wyoming, 18-12, after dropping its opening match to North Carolina, 6-25. The Black Knights are .500 on the season at 3-3 and 1-1 in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).
This was the second time Parsons has been named the AAA Athlete of the Week as he garnered the honors on Nov. 22 after going 5-0 with three bonus point wins in California against Cal Poly and a first-place finish at CSU Bakersfield's Roadrunner Open.
The Cadets return to action this weekend when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Penn on Sunday at 1 p.m.
