Army West Point Athletics
Feature Friday: From West Point to the World Stage
September 16, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Feature Friday highlights the tremendous personal stories our coaches and cadet-athletes have to share on a weekly basis. Each Friday, a new feature story will be prominently highlighted on GoArmyWestPoint.com. The features will include multi-media pieces, as well as written stories by media outlets and the Army West Point athletic communications staff.
Army West Point head men's soccer coach Russell Payne has worked with United States Soccer for a number of years, and has served as the goalkeepers coach for the senior men's national team since 2015. He worked with Team USA during the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the 2016 Copa America Tournament and most recently, in the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. Now in his seventh season at the helm for the Black Knights, Payne speaks about his experience so far with the United States Men's National Team and how he has used the lessons learned to better his cadets and the Army men's soccer program.
