Volleyball Projected Second in Preseason Poll

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Army West Point volleyball team has been picked second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll for the 2016 season. Juniors Carolyn Bockrath and Vanessa Wesley were two of seven individual players to land on the Preseason All-League team.
The Black Knights were voted second in the poll with 114 votes and seven first-place votes just behind American who had 123 points and 11 first-place nods. Colgate landed in third (100) and was followed by Lehigh (89), Navy (71) to round-out the top five, while Bucknell (61), Lafayette (32), Holy Cross (31) and Loyola (27) who closed out the league poll.
Bockrath and Wesley both saw success for the Cadets last season as middle blockers. The two had the highest hitting percentages in the league and ranked in the top-30 nationally and the pair were named to the All-Patriot League second team.
Bockrath, who hails from Newport Beach, Calif., was named to the Patriot League Championships All-Tournament Team last season. She ranked 10th in the nation in hitting percentage with an average of .425, and ranked as high as fourth throughout the year. Bockrath amassed double-digit kills in 19 matches in the 2015 season and broke the single-season hitting percentage for Army. She also led the team in blocks (87) and blocks per set (0.94).
Wesley, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., capped the year with a .396 hitting percentage to rank her 27th in the country. She currently ranks third in single-season hitting percentage for the Black Knights. Wesley broke the single-match hitting percentage (.917) for Army when she went 10-for-13 with no errors.
The Cadets open their season this weekend when they host Bakersfield, Hofstra and Valparaiso at the Black Knights Invitational on Aug. 26-27.
