McCravey, Smith Earn Weekly Honors from League

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After going 4-1 in the final week of the regular season, junior pitcher Caroline Smith and senior third basemen Kasey McCravey have been chosen as the Patriot League's Pitcher and Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Both Smith and McCravey aided the Black Knights in breaking the regular season wins record with 37. The pair totaled 15 hits 20 bases and six RBI.

Smith earned recognition as Pitcher of the Week for the second time in her career as the initial nod came back in 2014. The Chino Hills, Calif., native pitched her first career no-hitter last week in the team's 7-0 win over Hartford. Smith was one play away from a perfect game as she retired 19-straight Hawks before an error was called against the Black Knights.

The junior had no earned runs scored against her in 16.2 innings pitched to boast an ERA of 0.00. Smith allowed six hits and held her opponents to a .105 batting average by allowing just six hits. Along with pitching, she participated as the designated player when she was not in the circle. Smith batted in all five contests and hit .429, while scoring once and driving in two.

In the league, Smith has amassed a 1.56 ERA with only 11 earned runs against her and a batting average of .223.

McCravey was named the Patriot League's Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after going 7-for-16 for a .438 batting average with two doubles. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native totaled 14 bases and had a .875 slugging percentage while scoring six runs, driving in four and stealing three bases.

The senior eclipsed 400 career total bases over the weekend and pushed her 2016 season total to 109 which tops the Army record for the single-season record. McCravey now leads the Black Knights in five career categories and two single season ones.

In conference play this year, McCravey is batting .407 with seven of 24 hits being doubles. She has scored 11 runs in league games and totaled 34 bases with a .576 slugging percentage.

Lehigh has secured the top spot for the Patriot League Tournament and will play host to No. 2 Army, No. 3 Boston U and No. 4 Bucknell from May 14-16.
