Football Kicks Off Final Week of Spring Practice

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point football team began its final week of spring practice at Howze Field under overcast conditions on Tuesday afternoon. The Black Knights worked out in shells during the 12th practice session of the spring.

Practice included various drills, including work in position groups and game-like scenarios.

The end of practice featured small-group sessions that were broken down by position before the workout finished with a fourth quarter drill that simulated late-game situations.

SPRING GAME HONORARY CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED
Head coach Jeff Monken selected 10 honorary captains for the Black-Gold Spring Game late last week.
Â
The Black Team will feature former linebacker Chuck Schretzman, who gave an exceptional speech at last year's football banquet, and current Indianapolis Colt linebacker Josh McNary. Former teammates and 1984 Cherry Bowl winners Nate Sassaman and Doug Black, along with former defensive end Kurt Gutierrez rounds out the Black Team.
The Gold Team will counter with former running back Charlie Jarvis, who rushed for 2,334 yards in his three seasons at West Point. Joining him is Alejandro Villanueva, a current member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, along with former quarterback and 1985 Peach Bowl winner Tory Crawford. Anthony Noto returns to West Point after starring at linebacker for three seasons. Former Knute Rockne Award winner and All-American Bob Novogratz will also be on hand as part of the Gold Team.

The Black Knights return to the practice field on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. before wrapping up the spring with another practice on Friday and the Black-Gold Game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Michie Stadium.
