March 03, 2016 | Women's Basketball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team is set to enter the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the field of 10 teams. This season is the third in which the Black Knights will occupy the top seed in the postseason tournament, after doing so in 2005-06 and 2012-13.
The Black Knights earned a share of the regular-season title after closing the year 16-0 and tying in first place with a 17-1 league record with Bucknell, which also finished 17-1. Army claims the No. 1 seed by holding a higher position than Bucknell in the College Basketball News RPI.
Army faces the winner of Saturday's 8/9 matchup between No. 8 Colgate and No. 9. Lafayette in a conference quarterfinal game on Monday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Christl Arena.
The opening round of the Patriot League Tournament is slated for Saturday, March 5 and will feature the No. 6 through No. 10 teams, which will compete for a spot in the quarterfinals on Monday. The first round and quarterfinal round games will be played at the home court of the higher-seeded team.
The league semifinals will be held Friday, March 11 and the championship is set for Saturday, March 12 at 6 p.m. The three games in the semifinal and championship rounds will all be hosted at the home court of the highest-remaining seed entering the semifinals.
