2016 Volleyball Schedule
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball team has released its 30-game schedule, which features two home tournaments and a trip to the Texas Classic and Dartmouth Tournament.
Â
"We are looking forward to next season," said head coach Alma Kovaci. "The schedule is quite diverse and presents some great opportunities for growth and success. Our first tournament has us competing against some very successful teams. These teams know what it takes to win and it will be great to see our team compete at its best."
Â
The 2016 slate opens at Gillis Field House for the Black Knights Invitational when Army hosts Valparaiso, Bakersfield and Hofstra Aug. 26-27.
Â
Army's road campaign begins when the team travels to Austin, Texas, for the University of Texas Classic where the Cadets will face Lipscomb, Texas and the University of Texas San Antonio Sept. 2-3.
Â
"Just like last year, we will be competing against another Final Four team in the nation," Kovaci said. "This year, we will face Texas. We will be traveling to University of Texas and we are very excited to compete in front of many Alumni and Army supporters. It will be a great journey."
Â
The Black Knights will play back in the Northeast Sept. 9-10 for the Dartmouth Tournament. Army will square-off against the host Big Green, Niagara, Hartford and Central Connecticut State.
Â
Prior to its last home tournament, Army travels to Hudson Valley rival Marist on Sept. 13 for a 7 p.m. contest.
Â
The Cadets return home for the West Point Invitational Sept. 16-17 at Gillis Field House. UConn, Albany, St. John's and Delaware State will all be in attendance for Army's last tournament before conference play begins.
Â
"Our last pre-season tournament will set the tone for the beginning of Patriot League play," added Kovaci. "We will compete in front of our great fans against some tough teams in the Northeast. We look forward to getting better and learning more about ourselves with each match we play. The best teams have consistency and chemistry. I see these qualities in our extraordinary young women."
Â
On Sept. 20, the Black Knights open up Patriot League play on the road at Holy Cross. Army then hosts three-straight contests in Colgate (Sept. 24), American (Sept. 30) and Loyola (Oct. 1).
Â
The Army-Navy Star Match is slated for Oct. 7 down in Annapolis at 7 p.m. The Black Knights will be on the road at Lafayette (Oct. 8), Bucknell (Oct. 14) and Lehigh (Oct. 15) for that four-game stretch.
Â
Army will be back at Gillis on Oct. 19 to host Holy Cross before playing at Colgate (Oct. 21), Loyola (Oct. 28) and American (Oct. 29).
Â
The Cadets close-out the regular season with a four-game home stand against Lafayette, Navy, Lehigh and Bucknell coming to West Point Nov. 4-12.
