WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the second time this week, sophomore designated player Emily Gray has been recognized for her outstanding performance and was named the Patriot League Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
Recording multiple-hit games in four of the five played by the Black Knights, Gray helped Army West Point to four victories and finished the week hitting .647 and slugging 1.059. The Naples, Fla., native collected a total of 11 hits in 17 plate appearances, while knocking in six.
After dropping the first of a doubleheader at Penn, 8-4, Gray jump started the Black Knights' dominate 13-0 (5 inn.) second-game performance with her first home run of the season in the first inning, giving her team a lead that they would not give up the rest of the way. Gray also tallied four doubles, three of which she hit in Army's 11-2 (5 inn.) win over Rider.
Army went 4-1 last week with two mercy rule wins and improved to 14-11 overall. The Black Knights have won seven of their last 10 contests and are on a three-game winning streak.
The Black Knights will play in their home opener Wednesday, March 23, when they face Fairfield for a solo contest at the Army Softball Complex. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
