THIS WEEK: ATLANTIC HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND
The Black Knights make their first appearance at Blue Cross Arena since the 2008 season after sweeping third-seeded Holy Cross on its home ice last weekend. Army takes on top-seeded Robert Morris in the first semifinal on Friday. The Colonials advanced with a game-three win over Bentley, but had to find a way in the last two games of the series. RIT and Air Force make the semifinals on sweeps of its opponent with the Tigers winning on the road at Mercyhurst, while the Falcons took care of business against Canisius in two games in Colorado.
THIS WEEKEND'S STORYLINES
Army makes its first appearance in the conference semifinals for the first time since assistant coach Zach McKelvie was a junior on head coach Brian Riley's squad in 2008. Army is riding its longest winning streak of the season at three games and has gone unbeaten in six of its last seven games. Junior goalie Parker Gahagen has been exceptional in net for the Black Knights with three shutouts in five games and a 0.80 goals against average in the playoffs, which is among the nation's best.
LAST WEEK: ADVANCING WITH SERIES SWEEP AT HOLY CROSS
The Black Knights won their second series of the playoffs for the first time in program history with a sweep against Holy Cross in Worcester. Army took the first game thanks to 31 saves from Parker Gahagen for his fourth shutout of the season. Trevor Fidler scored a power play goal in the second period and that was all Army needed in game one. The next night it took a shorthanded goal by Taylor Maruya during a five-minute major penalty to tie the game at 1-1. Ryan Nick scored the gamewinner early in the third period and the defense held up late in the game to earn the sweep with a 2-1 win on Saturday. Gahagen finished with 36 saves in game two.

D-FENSE, D-FENSE
The Black Knights are enjoying success at the right time as Army is 4-1-0 during this playoff run and averaging over three goals a game, but more amazing has been the way the defense has played. The Black Knights are allowing a nation's best 0.80 goals a game during the playoffs. The penalty kill has been impressive at times, including a seven-minute stretch in game two against Holy Cross. The unit has killed off 16-of-18 penalties in the playoffs.
NO. 2 STAR
For the second-straight week, Parker Gahagen was named NCAA Ice Hockey's second star of the week after recording another shutout on Friday night against the Crusaders. He allowed one goal on 68 shots in the series sweep and has yielded only four goals in almost 300 minutes of playoff action.
MANNY BEING MANNY
A bright spot for this team in the playoffs has been the play of the fourth line, in particular Ian Mansfield. He came into the tournament with two assists in 25 games and leads all rookies in Atlantic Hockey with five points in the playoffs. He started with a three-point night in game one against AIC in the first round. He has two goals and three assists in the five games. The fourth line as a unit has 12 points on five goals and seven assists. The 12 points are the most for any line during the playoffs.
TEAM PLAY
The Black Knights pride themselves on playing as a team and it is showing on the scoresheet. Army has had 10 different goal scorers in the tournament so far with Conor Andrle leading the way with three. The four gamewinning goals have come from four different players and Army has four forwards with a plus-6 rating in the five games played in the tournament.
PHAM STEPPING UP
Sophomore forward Tyler Pham had a little slump during the regular season but has been a main factor for the Black Knights with six playoff points on a goal and five assists. He leads the team in points in the five games and is tied for fourth, averaging 1.20 points per game.
