Historic Postseason Stretch On Tap at West Point
February 29, 2016 | Women's Basketball, Athletics
WEST POINT - For the first time in Army West Point Athletics' history, the Holleder Center, home to Christl Arena and Tate Rink, will host men's and women's basketball and hockey postseason games in the same year.
"This is a very exciting time for everyone here at West Point," Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan said. "It is great to see our teams performing so well over the course of a season to earn the home games in the conference tournaments. They have all worked hard to earn this opportunity and I encourage the community to come out and support our Cadets."
The men's basketball team earned the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament after winning five of its final six games to end the regular season. The Black Knights won six games in February, the most for the program during the Patriot League era, and will host No. 5 Colgate on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Christl Arena.
Hockey captured three of four points last weekend against Bentley to secure the sixth spot in the upcoming Atlantic Hockey Tournament. The Black Knights will play host to 11th-seeded American International in the first round in a best-of-three format. The sixth-place finish for Army is the highest the Black Knights have finished since the 2008-09 season. All games this weekend with start at 7:05 p.m. at Tate Rink.
The women's basketball team was the first squad out of the three to clinch a home tournament game as the Black Knights will host a Patriot League quarterfinal on March 7. Army has one game remaining in the regular season, which is this Wednesday at Boston University. The Black Knights have matched their program record for consecutive wins with 15 straight. Senior Kelsey Minato enters the game against the Terriers with 2,445 career points and is 18 away from Molly Creamer's Patriot League women's basketball scoring record.
Tickets for each of the postseason tournaments can be purchased online at GoArmyWestPoint.com/tickets or by calling the Army West Point Ticket Office.
