Women’s Lacrosse Closes Out Homestand Thursday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Coming off its first varsity win last weekend, the Army West Point women's lacrosse team finishes its three-game homestand to begin to season, with a contest against LIU Brooklyn on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.

Army earned its first-ever varsity win by defeating Central Connecticut State, 8-7, on Feb. 20 at Michie Stadium. The Black Knights built a 7-2 advantage by the halftime break before holding on for the one-goal victory.
Freshman Nikki Polhamus led the way for Army, tallying five goals and six points in the win before drawing Patriot League Rookie of the Week praise earlier this week.
ARMY WEST POINT (1-1, 0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Polhamus finished the Central Connecticut State game a perfect 3-of-3 on free-position shots, while Army went 4-of-6 as a team. Sophomore Amy Johnston accounted for the other free-position goal as she went 1-for-1.
• Johnston added two goals, an assist and three draw controls, while junior captain Erin Jollota found the back of the net for the first goal of her career.
• Freshman Kayla Rowley started for the second game in a row and stopped eight shots to come away with the win.
• Polhamus leads the Black Knights with seven goals and eight points this season, while Johnston is close behind with six goals and seven points.
LIU BROOKLYN (0-1, 0-0 NORTHEAST) NOTES
• LIU Brooklyn fell to a 16-10 defeat at Fairfield to begin its season on Feb. 15.
• Junior Jenn Peters and redshirt junior Jillian May led the Blackbirds with four goals and two goals, respectively.
• Freshman Virginia Gibbons stopped nine shots in her first collegiate outing in the setback.
• LIU Brooklyn opens its 2016 campaign with six consecutive road games, and won't play its first home contest until facing Howard on March 19.
