Minato Selected as Senior CLASS Award Finalist
February 18, 2016 | Women's Basketball
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior captain Kelsey Minato was chosen as one of 10 finalists for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award in women's collegiate basketball on Thursday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Minato has played in and started all 119 games since arriving at West Point. She is a three-time All-Patriot League first-team selection and has twice collected Patriot League Player of the Year honors. Last season, she received All-America honorable mention praise by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
This year, she paces the conference with 23.6 points per game and ranks sixth nationally in scoring. Minato is Army's career scoring leader, including men's and women's players, with 2,379 points and stands second Patriot League history in scoring. She is currently 84 points shy of passing 2003 Bucknell graduate Moly Creamer's Patriot League record of 2,462 points.
The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced in January. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 21. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipients will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four®.
