WEST POINT, N.Y. – After leading the Army West Point men's basketball team to a pair of victories, senior center Kevin Ferguson has been selected as the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week.
Ferguson averaged a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds in Army's wins over Colgate and American led the Black Knights in scoring and rebounding in both games.
The 6-foot-10 native of Berkeley Heights, N.J., scored a career-high 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked two shots in an 82-72 home triumph over Colgate. The win helped Army split the season series with the Raiders as Ferguson put forth an 8-for-13 shooting performance and was perfect at the free throw line with a career-best 8-for-8 effort.
Army then claimed a road victory against American as Ferguson scored 20 points and equaled his career high of 14 rebounds. He was 8-for-10 from the floor and recorded the sixth-career 20-point game of his career. Ferguson increased his career double-double total to 12 and recorded the 16th double-digit rebounding game of his career.
The win swept the season series against American and gave Army 15 wins for the fourth straight year, marking the second time in Army history it has won at least 15 games in four consecutive seasons. The other group to accomplish the feat were the Army teams from 1920-24.
At 15-11 overall and 6-8 in Patriot League play, Army is currently seventh in the Patriot League standings with four games remaining in the regular season. The Black Knights host Holy Cross at Christl Arena on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
